Polycarbonate Lenses

Polycarbonate lenses are thinner and lighter than traditional plastic eyeglass lenses. They also offer 100 percent ultraviolet (UV) protection and are up to 10 times more impact-resistant than regular plastic lenses. This combination of lightweight comfort, UV protection and impact resistance makes polycarbonate lenses an excellent choice for children's glasses, sports eye-wear and safety glasses.

We require them in Rimless Glasses because the lens itself functions as the “frame” and the lens.  The arms and bridge pieces are attached to the lens.  If you drop a regular lens in a rimless pair of glasses, they will fall directly on the lens and would probably crack or break.
